  1. Ramakrishna Vivekananda Mission is a Socio-religious organisation setup by Revered Swami Nityanandaji Maharaj in the year 1976 at 7, Riverside Road, Barrackpore Cantonment, Barrackpore, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal with 20 tribal children of most backward districts of West Bengal for their residential care, education and training free of cost. His exemplary service attracted attention of the then authorities of State & Central Government. As an outcome, on the request of both the Central & State Government, he expanded his activities mainly to cater to the need of orphan children, destitute women, unemployed youths together with providing modern education to local students as per the teachings of World Teacher Swami Vivekananda which aims at Man-Making, Character-Building education.

 

  1. Gradually this Institution started its branches in various districts of West Bengal, in various states of India like West Bengal, Jharkhand, Chattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Odisha. At present the Mission is providing its services to the public through its 36 branch centres. The present social welfare activities of the Mission include running orphanage, vocational training centres, hostels, medical centres, taking care of elderly people,  relief centres, centre for taking care of differently-abled girls children, rural development activities, education from KG to PG and promoting the Age-Old Culture of India through function & festivals of Sanatana Dharma as expounded in the life of Bhagawan Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother Sarada Devi and Yugacharya Swami Vivekananda.

 

  1. In recognition to the services rendered by the Mission in the field of child welfare, the Govt. of India conferred prestigious National Award for child welfare in the year 1984, 1991, 2003 and 2007. This is the only organisation of India having such credibility to receive 4 times National Award for child welfare. The Mission has been honoured by the prestigious visit of Hon’ble President of India Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and Shri Pranab Mukherjee in the year 2003, 2013 and 2015 at its Headquarters at Barrackpore.

 

  1. Presently the Mission is looking after 1626 destitute & orphan children for their care and education free of cost, there are 19,090 students in various schools and vocational training centres run by this Mission including 578 students in higher education.

 

  1. Founder Swami Nityanadaji Maharaj left this Mortal World in the year 2014 leaving behind his vast welfare activities which has been carried out by the present administration to fulfil his unfinished dream which is mainly providing a platform for the poor students to complete their higher studies at a minimum cost through Mission-owned University. The University project is likely to be completed for which State Assembly has passed Ramakrishna Paramhansa University Bill 2024 and sent to the Hon’ble Governor of West Bengal for his kind approval. It will be a remarkable project of the Mission for celebrating its Golden Jubilee Ceremony.

 

  1. Mission started in the year 1976 and the Governing Body of the Mission has resolved to celebrate Golden Jubilee programme throughout the year 2025-26 through various innovative activities including dedication of a building to commemorate Golden Jubilee Year. With this idea the Mission has developed a building nearly 50,000 sq. feet area at its  branch at 3, B.T. Road, Agarpara, Kolkata – 58 which will be dedicated for celebrating Golden Jubilee Year as Golden Jubilee Building. This Golden Jubilee Building will be an inseparable part of the proposed Ramakrishna Pramahansa University. The plan of this building has been duly approved by the Authorities of Panihati Municipality. Hence, the Mission has invited our Former Hon’ble President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovindji to inaugurate this Golden Jubilee Building on the Holy Day of Sri Sri Ram Navami i.e. 6th April, 2025, Sunday.
